Galapagos NV (Euronext: GLPG) en de Universiteit van Bristol kondigen vandaag een nieuwe samenwerking aan voor medicijnontwikkeling voor pijn bij diabetes. BioFocus (de service divisie van Galapagos) zal het onderzoek, dat gefinancierd wordt door de Wellcome Trust, uitvoeren voor de Universiteit van Bristol. De totale waarde van het contract voor Galapagos kan oplopen tot meer dan €3,3 miljoen over de komende twee jaar. read more
In het voorjaar koos het Bestuurscollege van de UGent om extra te investeren in vijf multidisciplinaire onderzoeksdomeinen. Door het kwaliteitsstreven binnen de hele instelling scherp te stellen, maar ook op een beperkt aantal onderzoeksdomeinen extra in te zetten, wil de universiteit haar positie binnen het internationale hoger onderwijs verstevigen. De universiteit creëert nu 25 extra professorenplaatsen om de aanwezige expertise te versterken met nieuwe onderzoekers uit binnen- en buitenland. read more
In tegenstelling tot wat algemeen werd aangenomen, is de verspreiding van mariene kiezelwieren (diatomeeën) op wereldschaal beperkt. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek van de vakgroep Biologie van de UGent. Deze bevinding heeft belangrijke implicaties voor de kennis over het ontstaan van nieuwe soorten en van de biodiversiteit van micro-organismen in zee. Het onderzoek verschaft ook inzicht in de rol van de mens bij de steeds frequenter voorkomende algenbloeien in oceanen. read more
Galapagos NV (Euronext: GLPG) announced today that the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) have extended their agreement with Galapagos’ service division BioFocus for the operation of the Molecular Libraries Small Molecule Repository (MLSMR) through December 2012. According to the terms of this agreement, Galapagos will be eligible to receive up to $8.6 million (€7.0 million) over the course of the two year extension. read more
Ablynx [Euronext Brussels: ABLX] announced today that Novartis has obtained licenses to further develop and commercialise Nanobodies against two complex targets. This has triggered a total of €1 million in upfront fees and license payments to Ablynx. read more
