The objectives of the company are:
- to develop and make available safe biocompatible coatings, based on triglycerides, in particular for the use as interface on Drug Eluting Stents or Drug Eluting Balloons (DEB) and on implants in general;
- to further document preclinically our portfolio of intellectual property (IP) in the field of controlled drug release and coatings;
- to support our partners and licensees with the development of our coatings on a DES or DEB platform towards safe and efficient use.

Product description
Ziscoat has a portfolio of different technologies and combinations thereof to significantly improve local drug delivery:
- Triglyceride-based biocompatible coatings
- A stable triglyceride-based coating that is biocompatible and biosoluble. Therefore, it is by definition no polymer coating.
- The starting materials for this group of coatings are pure triglycerides (purity > 99%) that are transformed into a stable coating.
- Tryglyceride-based coatings have a preference for lipophilic drugs and can be sterilised by gamma radiation or by vaporised hydrogen peroxide (VHP).
- Applied to a stent, preclinical data (pig coronary model) show that no inflammatory reaction is evoked during solubilisation of the coating.
- Triglyceride-based coatings deliver a tunable controlled drug release : from very fast (>90% drug delivery in 24 hours) to very slow (< 1% drug release in 24 hours and continuous drug release over months).
- High drug loading capacity is possible.
- Zeogrid containing coatings
Zeogrids are nanoporous materials that can be loaded with drugs and mixed with any type of coating before applicaiton. Zeogrids have been tested in combination with triglyceride-based biocompatible coatings. Long term animal trials show that the zeogrids in combination with triglyceride-based biocompatible coatings are fully biocompatible.
Zeogrids have the capability to:
- load high quantities of drugs (up to 30%)
- load non lipophilic drugs
- load multiple drugs in one coating
allowing for a high versatility in coating possibilities.
The zeogrid-technology is fully compatible with most other available commercial coating
