KBC Private Equity contributes financial resources in the form of equity finance (through capital increases or acquiring existing shares) and/or in the form of mezzanine finance (usually a subordinated loan which can – either totally or partially – be converted into share capital). Sometimes both products are combined in order to provide a tailored financing solution.

KBC Private Equity can take both majority and minority interests in companies. In all cases, KBC Private Equity attaches a great deal of importance to working closely with the other shareholders and management, who are usually involved in profit-sharing or other incentive schemes.

KBC Private Equity concentrates primarily on the home markets of the KBC Group.

As an active shareholder with a long-term perspective, KBC Private Equity is involved in taking strategic decisions and providing support to management. Besides providing financial resources, KBC Private Equity aims to create value in areas where it is skilled, but without involving itself in the day-to-day operational policy. Usually KBC Private Equity has a seat on the Board of Directors.

KBC Private Equity targets performing, medium-sized companies in diverse sectors. These companies usually demonstrate a positive EBITDA of at least € 1.5 million. Special attention is paid to companies which have built up a leading position in a specific (niche) sector and which have indentified growth opportunities. Specific criteria apply for investments in the biotech industry.
