IMBP produces and markets Bacillus spores specific to bioepuration: development and fine tuning of a new encapsulation process for active biological substances applicable to the bioepuration and bioremediation sectors.
The purpose of IMBP, a spin-off of l'Unité de BioTechnologie of the Meurice Institute (School of Industrial Engineers) of Brussels, is the production and marketing of micro-organisms specific to bioepuration.
The aim of the first project is to develop a new encapsulation process for biologically active substances. The applications proposed will be used to clean up the environment by means of bioaugmentation, i.e. by dispersing non-pathogenic micro-organisms used for decontamination.
Potential markets include the biological cleaning of industrial and collective waters and soils. These markets are large and have expanded in recent years thanks to the development of increasingly stricter national, European and international regulations. The present volume of this market for Europe is estimated to be € 500 million with an expected growth level for the coming years of 20%.
