The CMI has been created by the Government of Flanders to accelerate the translation of innovative discoveries in the field of health care by creating, coordinating, organizing and stimulating collaborative efforts between universities, industry and universities, and interact with the international institutions and organizations with similar goals.
Het CMI start met een ambitieus project: de harmonisering en coördinatie van de Vlaamse biobanken, inclusief het in lijn brengen van deze banken met nationale en internationale initiatieven. In een tweede fase zullen de taken van het centrum uitbreiden en zal het CMI uitgroeien tot een autonoom interuniversitaire structuur die een stimulerende omgeving creëert voor hoogkwalitatief translationeel en biomedisch onderzoek in Vlaanderen, waarvan op termijn de patiënt en burger de vruchten zullen plukken.
