The Innovation Center for plant biotechnology of Bayer CropScience NV, located in Belgium - Gent/Astene, is one of the major R&D centers of the Bayer CropScience division of Bayer AG. The site has currently more than 350 employees from more than 25 different nationalities. Bayer CropScience is a leading international player in research, development and commercialization of seeds with added value traits and innovative solutions for crop protection with tailored service and expert advice.
The headquarters are in Monheim, Germany and the division has more than 20,700 employees in 120 countries.
At the Innovation Center innovation and product development is focused on improving plant properties in agricultural crops such as oilseed rape, cotton, rice, soybean, sugarcane and wheat. The process of innovation and commercialization combines expertise in the following areas to create a unique insight and position in the market:
Intensive interaction between the legal department, intellectual property department, quality assurance- and control team and the regulatory and stewardship department is required to prepare for commercialization. These global and regional Seeds business support functions are based at the Innovation Center to optimize integration with the research activities and to ensure accomplishment of the world-wide business objectives in an efficient, socially responsible and sustainable way.
Bayer CropScience - Seeds is currently commercializing seeds in oilseed rape, rice, soybean, cotton and vegetables throughout the world. Commercialization of proprietary traits in other crops is achieved through partnerships or license agreements with major players in the respective crop markets.
The Innovation Center has established research collaborations and license agreements with other companies and academic institutes around the world.
