At the Innovation Center innovation and product development is focused on improving plant properties in agricultural crops such as oilseed rape, cotton, rice, soybean, sugarcane and wheat. The process of innovation and commercialization combines expertise in the following areas to create a unique insight and position in the market:

• expertise of bringing biotech products (weed and insect control, yield enhancement and abiotic stress tolerance) to the market;
• the availability of state-of-the-art research and development competencies such as breeding and Bioinformatics
• collaborations with leading academic groups and;
• synergies between different Bayer subgroups.

Intensive interaction between the legal department, intellectual property department, quality assurance- and control team and the regulatory and stewardship department is required to prepare for commercialization. These global and regional Seeds business support functions are based at the Innovation Center to optimize integration with the research activities and to ensure accomplishment of the world-wide business objectives in an efficient, socially responsible and sustainable way.
