1983 – The year it all started – With the publication of 4 papers reporting on the proof of concept of introducing genes into plants, 1983 was an important year for plant biotechnology. The discovery symbolizes the start of a new era of modern plant biology. On the one hand, scientists received a tool to intensify their studies on the molecular biology of plants. On the other hand, gene transfer in plants enabled the production of new agricultural traits.
