BIO US is the global event for biotech networking and partnering. Once again FlandersBio, Flanders Investment & Trade together with ABE and AWEX organized a Belgian pavilion in the exhibition hall, a breakfast meeting and the Belgian Café. Some 45 organizations joined the Belgian Pavillion; 17 for Flanders alone. FlandersBio members get a reduction on the participation fee.
The Belgian Pavillion
Flanders, Brussels and the Walloon region shared 200 m² exhibition space at the Belgian Pavillion in the exhibition hall. The new design with luminous walls and high quality furniture certainly attracted the attention of the visitors. Also new was the concept at the Flemish side with a focus on Flanders’ strengths to attract investments to the region. The resulting reduction in the participation fee was appreciated by all.
Belgian Breakfast
The first day of the exhibition started with the second edition of the Belgian Breakfast. 65 Belgian participants had the opportunity to meet with peers and invited some 150 foreign invitees to enjoy the instructive presentation by Dirk Collier of Janssen Pharmaceutica and Yves Verschueren of Essencia on Biopharmaceutical R&D and Manufacturing in Belgium.
Participants
17 Flemish companies were present at the biggest biotech trade show. To start off they were invited by De Clercq Brants & Partners and Flanders Investment & Trade to an informal diner at a Brazilian steakhouse.
Algonomics, De Clercq Brants & Partners, Formac Pharmaceuticals, Galapagos, Innogenetics Biologicals, J&J Pharmaceutical R&D, Movetis, Peira, PharmaVize, reMYND, SGS Life Sciences, Silicos, ThromboGenics, TiGenix and VIB joined the Flanders delegation. For 13 organizations the focus was on Bio’s partnering event where more than 14,200 one-on-one partnering meetings were held. FlandersBio kept track of their schedule and actively distributed company information to interested parties.
Belgian Café
This tried and tested social networking event with live music, free Belgian beers and French fries has proven its value in creating an awareness of Belgium as a Biotech region and attracted more than 800(!) visitors to the roof garden of “Stats”.
