ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum: Data-driven innovation in food, nutrition and the microbiome

Only 3 weeks to go for the ELIXIR Innovation event on data in food, nutrition and microbiome. Have a look at the program of this lunch-to-lunch event in which you will be immersed in a world of data-driven innovation, illustrated by innovative companies and ELIXIR’s open data resources and services. This is accomplished by a mix of high-level keynote speakers and interactive sessions in which you can discuss and interact with other companies and ELIXIR partners.

It will showcase a selection of free data resources and services available through ELIXIR, such as PRIDEEuropean Nucleotide Archive and Metagenomics Portal, as well as examples of innovative companies already using public data in their business, such as MyMicroZoo and MS-Omics. Participants will also learn about the training opportunities on food, nutrition and microbiome resources available through ELIXIR.

A large number of experts will take the floor. An overview of the line-up:

  • Data-driven innovation in industrial life-sciences Michiel Akeroyd, senior scientist at DSM
  • Food 2030: Research & Innovation for tomorrow's nutrition and food systems Wim Haentjens, Agri-food Unit of the European Commission
  • Tentative Title: Gut microbiome: a growing number of resources and tools Peer Bork, Strategic Head of Bioinformatics at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

ELIXIR hub
ELIXIR is an intergovernmental organisation that brings together life-science resources from across Europe. These resources include databases, software tools, training materials, cloud storage and supercomputers.
The goal of ELIXIR is to coordinate these resources so that they form a single infrastructure. This infrastructure makes it easier for scientists to find and share data, exchange expertise, and agree on best practices.
ELIXIR includes 21 members and over 180 research organisations. It was founded in 2014, and is currently implementing its first five-year scientific programme.
ELIXIR supports open innovation, and promotes the use of widely adopted standards. This reduces barriers between information sharing and helps facilitate cross-company research partnerships. Read more
